Destruction racer Trail Out hits PlayStation 5 in January 2026

Following the 2024 Xbox Series X|S port, the FlatOut-inspired destruction racer is smashing onto PS5 in late January 2026.

Initially expected to arrive in late 2025, the PlayStation 5 port of Trail Out has been pushed back until early next year.

Developer Good Boys announced that the destruction racer has been “postponed until the end of January next year.” A specific release date is not yet confirmed.

“We need more time to polish and prepare for the release without rushing during the holidays,” the studio stated on the game’s Discord.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the developer confirmed that the PS5 version of Trail Out is “ready for the console” and is awaiting certification from Sony. It’s currently available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store, with a different, unnamed studio handling the PS5 port.

When it launches on PS5, the destruction racer will include four previously released DLC packs: Legendary Cars, Luxury Life, Steel Wheels and Hunt 007 Special.

Originally released on PC in 2022, Trail Out is an over-the-top arcade racer featuring chaotic crashes, a story mode and destructible race tracks. There are even ridiculous ragdoll mini games evoking the original FlatOut series, in which the driver is ejected from the windscreen.

Following the initial PC release, the destruction racer was ported to Xbox Series X|S in 2024. Thankfully, the wait is nearly over for patient PS5 players.

Since its launch, Trail Out has received a slew of updates and DLC packs adding new cars, tracks and game modes.

A sequel is also in development, with Trail Out 2 expected to release in 2027 with new physics and graphics, along with an open-world story mode.

2026 is shaping up to be a great year for combat racing fans, with Carmageddon making a surprise comeback early next year and, hopefully, the final release of Wreckfest 2 on PC and consoles.
