A roadmap for CarX Drift Racing Online’s upcoming updates confirms that custom maps are planned for console versions of the popular drifting game.
According to a new development update video, CarX Technologies has “almost completed” Car X Racing Online’s next update (update 2.23.0), due to arrive in winter 2024 or 2025.
Details are vague, but players can expect new cars, new wheels, and a “revamped livery editor.”
There’s no release date yet, but CarX Drift Racing Online’s next update is set to be available “soon for all platforms” this winter. However, more exciting features are planned for another update.
Testing for custom maps is underway for console versions of CarX Drift Racing Online on PlayStation and Xbox. However, this feature has been delayed until update 2.24.0 as “the original estimate for development was not correct.”
In an update posted in May, the developer announced that the development of custom maps for consoles was around 70-80 per cent complete.
On PC, players can download and install custom track mods uploaded on Steam Workshop. Modded tracks will “work on consoles just like on PC” according to CarX Technologies, with a pre-approval process.
Aside from a few exceptions like SnowRunner, driving games don’t usually support mods on consoles, so this is a surprising revelation.
Additionally, update 2.24.0 will increase the number of layers in the livery editor to 1,000 and add car slots for storing multiple variants of the same car in garages. Along with new cars, it will also introduce a new photo mode.
Beyond that, update 2.25.0 will bring “improved visuals for headlights”, skybox animations and “ultimate pro.” These updates are expected to arrive in winter 2024 or 2025, but the roadmap timeframe is not final.
