Automobilista v1.41 update adds new cars and tracks, including Spa 2022

Brazilian development team Reiza Studios has unveiled its comprehensive v1.4 and 1.4.1 updates to its racing sim Automobilista 2 today (26th August 2022).

Among the content updates, new cars and tracks have been added, including a fully up-to-date version of Spa-Francorchamps – just in time for this weekend’s Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.

New Tracks

Also included in the gargantuan v1.4 patch are Autoclub Speedway and WorldWide Technology  Raceway (WWTR), with the Tri-Oval configuration also added to Daytona International Speedway.

WWTR has also recently made an appearance in rFactor 2, and it appears – along with Autoclub Speedway and Daytona’s oval layout– as part of Automobilista 2’s (AMS2) Racin’ USA Pt3 DLC pack.

The latest 2022 version of Spa-Francorchamps is also present, but only for players who own the Spa-Francorchamps DLC.

New Cars

In terms of vehicles, the Mercedes AMG GT4, fictional Vulkan Truck and Mini Cooper 1965 are all new additions to the sim, with new Ginetta G55 and F-USA configurations also making an appearance (the F-USA car types are available as part of the Racin’ USA Pt2 pack).

In terms of notable vehicle features, v1.4.1 adds convincing diesel smoke to vehicles like those found in the Brazilian Copa Truck series, adding extra immersion for truck racing fans, with completely revised physics for all Caterhams, the ARC Camaro, the GT Classics cars, Vintage TCs and Street Cars.

Advanced Mechanical Damage Modelling

The way mechanical damage is calculated and manifests itself has been comprehensively overhauled too, with the F-Vintage, F-Retro, F-Classic, F-V12, F-V10, F-Reiza and F-Ultimate all using the new system.

Intriguingly, this means that if a player pushes their car too hard – over-revving, for example – cars can develop coolant leaks before the engine expires. Allied to the already-present clutch and gearbox damage modelling, AMS2 forces players to drive with a degree of mechanical sympathy (if the option is selected, of course).

Other important features

With the onset of oval racing in AMS2, full course yellows (FCY) have been implemented into the sim for the first time, alongside the necessary oval racing regulations.

Tyres sets can also be restricted during a race weekend to better reflect real-life racing regulations and the damage model has been upgraded to incorporate the Puma P052, so car parts can dangle or even fall off in the event of a collision.

AMS2’s LiveTrack feature has also been upgraded, improving the way water pools and drains off the circuit surface, with rubbering-in occurring at a more realistic rate too. With too many AMS2 upgrades to mention, the full AMS2 v1.4 and 1.41 changelogs are below.

Have you tried AMS2 since its huge v1.4 update? What is your favourite feature? Let us know in the comments below.
