Screamer’s release date was confirmed at The Game Awards 2025 alongside a new story-focused trailer.

Anime-style arcade racer Screamer gets March 2026 release date

Last year’s Game Awards saw Milestone unveil Screamer, a surprise reimagining of the Italian studio’s 1990s arcade racing series. Fast forward one year, and the anime-inspired arcade racer now has a release date.

At The Game Awards 2025, Milestone announced that Screamer will release on 26th March, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-orders now available.

Showcased in a new story trailer, Screamer is a narrative-focused arcade racer based on an illegal street racing tournament with five rival teams, each featuring distinct characters and vehicles. Milestone says the narrative will be intertwined, making it possible to play as every character.

Set in a neon-lit dystopian city, the story will be told through over 30 minutes of anime-style cut scenes produced by Japanese animation studio Polygon Pictures, with characters voiced by the likes of Troy Braker (The Last of Us, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End) and Aleks Le (Solo Leveling, Street Fighter 6).

Inspired by TV shows like Akira and Arcane, the art style is a departure from the original Screamer games.

What also sets Screamer apart is its twin-stick control scheme, with the left stick controlling steering and the right stick controlling the direction of your drift. This is combined with fillable energy bars, enabling attacking and defensive combat moves.

Blending racing and fighting games, the result feels like a cross between Ridge Racer and Street Fighter that will “redefine what players can expect from arcade racing,” according to Milestone.

Screamer isn’t the only Milestone-developed racing game out in 2026 either, with Ride 6 also set to release in February 2026.
