SCS Software made the huge announcement in August that its seminal Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator titles would be given PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S releases.

However, other than PlayStation and Xbox store listings appearing, few morsels of information have been revealed about the ports, until a special, console-focused ‘Dev Talk’ vlog was released today (10th October 20205).

“At this point, we are sure the games are not coming out in 2025 on the new platforms,” stated Jakub Mráz, Consoles Producer at SCS Software.

“The concrete release date will be decided as we go based on internal playtests, on evaluations, on how performance is doing. [We want to] ensure that people actually get a great game when they eventually buy it on these platforms,” he continued.

Despite being pleased with the reception to the announcement of console ports for SCS’s trucking titles, Mráz is understandably aiming to manage expectations surrounding their release date, despite the console version being around “90% or 95% done in most of the technical departments”.

What is certain, though, is that SCS will release teasers ahead of the game’s PS5 and Xbox release, balancing its community’s desire for information alongside the port’s internal progress.

“As for the road map, we are planning to unveil our hidden cards if we were to tease the community on what is coming next and when it’s coming,” said Mráz.

“We realise that people will be intrigued into hearing about the future updates and all the additional features that might be coming to the game down the line after the initial release,” he explained, detailing that a formal road map won’t be made available just yet.

“Keep your eyes peeled, we are preparing something,” he concluded, hinting at an impending news update.

Future updates

American Truck Simulator: Dodge and RAM car DLC on the way

It’s an exciting time to be a fan of SCS’s truck titles, thanks to the introduction of new Road Trip and Coaches DLC, in ATS and ETS 2, respectively.

The former adds drivable cars to the game (Ford and Dodge/RAM car packs have already been confirmed), while the latter will add an interesting bus-based mode.

Both games continue to expand virtual representations of Europe and North America, too, with Iceland set for its debut in ETS 2 soon and South Dakota and Illinois both on the horizon for ATS. This ensures that console players will have plenty of roads to explore when they’re finally able to get behind the wheel as early as 2026.
