Wreckreation’s single-player experience detailed, no online connection required

Three Fields confirms that Wreckreation won’t require an online connection and reveals what to expect from the single-player experience.

Wreckreation’s single player detailed, no online connection required

From the original creators of Burnout, Wreckreation is a customisable open-world racer where players can build stunt tracks known as ‘MixWorlds’ while other players drive on them in real-time.

Combine this with high-speed racing and spectacular crashes, and Wreckreation looks set to be a cross between Burnout and TrackMania.

Mercifully, you won’t need an online connection to play Wreckreation, despite its multiplayer focus,.

“There’s no [online] requirement,” Three Fields Entertainment CEO Ferry Sperry confirmed to Traxion. It’s a refreshing contrast to other open-world racers like Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown and The Crew Motorfest, which are often criticised for requiring an internet connection to play.

What to expect from Wreckreation’s single-player experience

For those playing offline, Wreckreation will offer a single-player experience, complete with a Burnout Paradise-style license progression system. Smashable billboards and gates scattered around the environment will also be familiar to anyone who played Burnout Paradise.

“The single-player experience is roughly split between winning events, to earn licence points that unlock new cars and event creation and exploration,” Sperry explains. “This is the main way to unlock Live Mix objects for your world, as well as extra car unlocks for things like billboard or smash-gate milestones.

“We’ve also built in plenty of ways to play asynchronously with friends,” Sperry continues. “There are seven different ‘Wreckords’ on every road, fastest time, longest drift, most air, and more. Plus, our ‘Wreckommendation’ system suggests events for you based on what your friends are doing, like if someone beats your time on a race or if many of your friends are playing a particular community challenge.”

“We hope players will want to go online”

However, Sperry goes on to add that players will get the most out of Wreckreation when playing online. “We hope players will want to go online, because that’s when everything really comes to life,” she says.

“Hosts have a lot of tools to create gameplay on the fly through the Wreckreation Challenge system. And for those who prefer spontaneity, there’s even a ‘Roll the Dice’ option that lets the game suggest new activities.”

Another benefit of playing Wreckreation online is a feature Three Fields dubs “cross-platform Live Trophies,” which tracks scores to encourage competitive play. Online multiplayer crossplay across PC, PlayStation and Xbox won’t be supported, however.

“These track who has the best scores in the world across all platforms in almost every competitive event – and they’re constantly changing as players set new records,” Sperry explains. “Gold Trophies go to the top 10% of players, Silver to the top 30%, and Bronze to the top 50%.”
