Microsoft sent shockwaves when it announced that Forza Horizon 5, previously a PC and Xbox exclusive, was heading to PlayStation 5. Judging from its staggering sales figures so far, Microsoft won’t be regretting this decision.

According to a report by analyst firm The Alinea Analytics, which tracked the top-selling new PS5 games between 1 January 2025, and 21 July 2025, via GamesIndustry.bz, the PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 5 has sold over three million copies since it was ported in April.

Remarkably, that makes it the best-selling new PS5 game of 2025 so far in terms of copies sold, beating Monster Hunter: World. Not bad for a port of a four-year-old Xbox game.

A 25% discount in the ongoing PlayStation Summer Sale likely contributed to Forza Horizon 5 achieving this new milestone.

Forza Horizon 5’s move to PlayStation comes as part of Microsoft’s new multiplatform strategy, with Gears of War: Reloaded also heading to Sony’s system next month.

The PS5 port was developed by Panic Button, previously known for its miraculous Doom Nintendo Switch port and enhancing Forza Horizon 4 for the Xbox Series consoles.

With Forza Horizon 5’s fourth anniversary fast approaching this September, fans are eagerly awaiting a sequel. During this year’s Xbox Showcase, Phil Spencer announced that the next untitled Forza game is set to launch next year.

Following mass layoffs at Turn 10 Studios earlier this month, the next Forza entry is widely expected to be Forza Horizon 6. Given Forza Horizon 5’s monumental success on Sony’s platform so far, it seems likely that the next Forza will get a day-one release on PS5.
