Keep on trucking: Dedicated servers added to Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator

SCS Software has added dedicated servers to both its American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 titles.

SCS Software has finally activated a much-requested feature in its popular trucking sims Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator.

The Czech developer announced yesterday (8th December 2022) it was implementing dedicated servers to its titles, giving players the chance to set up and control their own online games.

This is a major improvement to the game’s Convoy online mode, in that servers no longer have to run on the host’s PC, reducing stress on their machine and improving the overall gameplay experience.

Exciting stuff, isn’t it?

Once the host left a convoy mode server the session finished for everyone. With a dedicated server, the game exists even when the host leaves, allowing the rest of the players to go about their business indefinitely.

At the moment, however, a dedicated server can only support up to eight players. Mods should also work on dedicated servers as they do in Convoy mode, but fans have already reported some bugs in the mode’s early stages.

SCS Software plan to iron out any multiplayer bugs in the short term with plans to introduce moderation features and other tools as development continues. A guide to the new dedicated server service is available with the server tool, which is freely downloadable from the Steam client now.
