Trail Out, a racing game offering similar chaotic crash-em-up thrills to Wreckfest and Stuntfest – World Tour releases today (7th September 2022) on PC.
Coming without great fanfare, the title has been in development by GOOD BOYS for a couple of years already with a host of interesting features set to differentiate it from its aforementioned rivals.
The main crux of Trail Out’s single-player experience is its story mode. Playing as the main character – Mihalych – your goal is to race against and defeat several opponents across the globe. Like Wreckfest, courses are destructible and are often littered with car parts, fencing, barriers and other debris as the racing goes on.
Using Unreal Engine 4, the game is set to release initially for PC via Steam, with Steam Deck compatibility being worked on soon after. Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and mobile versions are planned for 2023.
Impressively, the game is also set to feature VR functionality, with an up to four-player local split-screen multiplayer mode in the works. What effect this will have on the game’s performance is yet to be seen, however. One thing we do know is that Trail Out’s explosions look suitably fiery.
Trail Out also showcases a prominent aspect of Stunt Fest and BugBear’s FlatOut series of games – ragdoll physics. Each vehicle is driven by an ejectable driver, leading to some fun, if slightly bizarre, game modes.
