Late last month (27th June 2022) we reported on American Truck Simulator’s move to its v1.45 open beta.
Soon after, SCS Software – developers of both American Truck Simulator (ATS) and Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) – also announced the v1.45 open beta for ETS2 was live, adding a host of features to the venerable European-themed truck sim.
As well as the v1.45 open beta, yesterday (7th July 2022) SCS Software announced a tie-in with cast steel trailer coupling manufacturer JOST, bringing the firm’s products to the sim as a free update. We’ll talk you through all the news below.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 v1.45 open beta new features
Hanover rework and custom city intros
We have previously mentioned ETS2’s upcoming Hanover rework, featuring an extensively detailed Hanover Fairgrounds location, but the v1.45 open beta will also add custom city intros for the newly upgraded city, as well as for the recently reworked Austria.
These full-motion video intros appear when players select a starting city with a new profile. Hanover and Austrian cities are only available at this stage, but more will be introduced in future.
Optional mod support for Convoy
Convoy is ETS2’s multiplayer mode. Often, players would be denied access to their friends’ online trucking sessions due to mod mismatches or through simply not having the same mods installed.
However, SCS Software has moved to mitigate these issues by making it far easier to join a host’s online session even if you do not have the same third-party mods installed.
Rain sensors and inaccessible road markers
Automatic rain-sensing window wipers will also be implemented into ETS2, with another UI option to mark inaccessible roads on the in-game map. Small quality of life improvements but time-savers when out on the open road.
Krone Trailer Pack DLC updates
Krone is a vehicle trailer manufacturer and though the Krone Trailer Pack DLC was released way back in 2018 SCS Software is bringing further updates via v1.45.
This will bring new Krone vehicles and other accessories to ETS2, plus Krone’s Werlte production plant in Germany will become a new in-game destination. Naturally, you will need the Krone Trailer Pack DLC to take advantage of the new items.
Ownable cistern trailers
It will now be possible to own cistern trailers in v1.45. Whether it’s grain silos or the most valuable commodity known to man – fuel – ETS2 players will now be able to purchase and keep their shiny petrol carriers in their virtual truck stop.
Euro Truck Simulator 2: JOST fifth wheel couplings
JOST are pioneers in the world of truck couplings, having filed the first cast steel fifth wheel patent more than 60 years ago.
The fifth wheel is where the truck meets the trailer. It is generally situated centrally over a truck’s back double axle, ensuring the trailer’s load is distributed as evenly as possible. It also helps keep the centre of gravity of the combined load low.
SCS Software plans to change all unbranded fifth wheels in-game to JOST products, but a select few trucks in the v1.45 beta already use them. These are the Mercedes Benz New Actros, Renault Trucks T, Scania Next-Gen S, Scania Next-Gen R, and the DAF 2021 XG and XG+.
