Ahead of tonight’s Formula E:Accelerate esports event, the drivers participating have been announced.
Whilst three of the drivers were pre-determined by the qualifiers on rFactor 2 hosted a few weeks back, teams were free to determine the majority of the drivers on the grid.
Interestingly there are a number of drivers that represent other teams that are “on loan” to Formula E teams. For example, the polish pairing of Williams Esports Nikodem Wisniewski and Kuba Brzezinski are representing DS Techeetah and Jaguar Racing respectively.
F1 Esports drivers are also represented on the grid. Last year’s runner-up Frederik Rasmussen is being loaned from Red Bull Racing Esports to the Dragon / Penske Autosport team. Mercedes F1 have been generous to their Formula E counterparts by loaning F1 Esports champion Jarno Opmeer and Formula E Vegas champion Bono Huis to their championship challenge.
Notable sim racing personality and influencer Jaroslav Honzik (also known as Jardier) will also join the grid for the Porsche team – not doubt he’ll be streaming his perspective for his fans as well.
With €100,000 on the line, it’s going to be an intriguing series. You can catch the action on the Formula E YouTube from 19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET.
