The first Showcase event has been shown off for Forza Horizon 5 and it features a giant plane and the Gymkhana-king’s classic 90s Ford.

Showcases are a staple of the Forza Horizon series. They are linear missions that see you racing unusual machinery in a grandiose style. We’re a fan of these scenarios, to the point where we even made a Top 10 video. Based on this preview, we may have to re-do that list now…

Shown as part of Forza Horizon 5: Let’s ¡Go! – Episode 6, a series of preview videos that have also seen new cars, the map and the cover art being unveiled, this new showcase is entitled ‘On a Wing and a Prayer’.

You start out racing over jumps and on an asphalt road against the plane, and then around the mid-point of the chase, two motocross bikes are dropped off for you to also battle with. It culminates in a giant ramp down the side of a canyon.

Lasting around three and a half minutes, it’s pretty spectacular, but upon this first look, doesn’t bring an all-new approach to the Showdowns. The environment remains the stand-out element of this game so far.

The car is all-new to the Forza Horizon franchise. The 1994 Ford Escort RS Cosworth WRC V2 is affectionately known as the ‘Cossie’ and was used by Ken Block in various rally events. This is an evolution of the 991 Hoonigan Gymkhana 10 Ford Escort Cosworth Group A featured in Forza Horizon 4.
