Simagic is a sim racing brand built by a group of passionate engineers and motorsport fans, initially focusing on the nascent direct drive wheelbase market.
Founded in 2018, the Chinese manufacturer has gone from strength to strength since, expanding its product line-up to include shifters, handbrakes, and pedals.
However, it’s wheelbases and steering wheels where the Shenzhen-based business continues to excel, so we’ve outlined the best of the bunch below.
The Simagic Alpha Evo Ultra represents the pinnacle of the brand’s wheelbase offering, providing a mammoth 28 Nm of torque.
There’s no doubt that 28 Nm is overkill for the vast majority of sim racers, but it offers enough headroom to make clipping a thing of the past. This makes the Alpha Evo Ultra Simagic’s finest wheelbase to date.
The Alpha Evo sits in the middle of Simagic’s Alpha Evo lineup, offering 12Nm of torque. With a compact 130x110x281mm footprint, the Evo will fit most entry-level rig setups and provide enough force feedback headroom to reduce clipping.
Like all Alpha Evo wheelbases, the Evo has Simagic’s ‘zero-cogging’ tech, which offers smooth force feedback (albeit perhaps slightly over-damped) and compatibility with Simagic’s latest Zeus steering wheel range (and beyond!).
However, compared to Moza’s 12 Nm R12 V2 wheelbase, which normally retails for $469, its $549 price tag is perhaps a little steep.
The Formula is the flagship of Simagic’s new Zeus range, and at 280mm wide, it suits both single-seaters and modern GT3 racing.
It has a ridiculous number of inputs and optional modular MagicDash 4 compatibility, letting players customise the screen display with Simagic’s proprietary SimPro software and SimHub.
The MagicDash requires an Air Link Wi-Fi adapter or a wired MagLink Pro to function, but you can bundle either option with the wheel if required. It’s a system that requires a bit of fettling to get up and running, but the long-term benefits are worth it, in our opinion.
The Zeus Sport is another of Simagic’s Zeus range, and is perhaps the most versatile. Unlike the comparatively limited Zeus GT, the Sport is 320mm and round as standard, making it a good option for virtual rally, drift, and road car driving.
You can also fit modular grips, including leather and suede 330mm circular versions, as well as D-shaped and square options.
Combined with a plethora of inputs and the optional MagicDash 4 screen (including SimHub compatibility), there’s very little the Zeus Sport can’t do.
Although the Simagic Alpha Mini has the same $399 price tag and 1Nm more of torque, the Simagic Alpha Evo Sport’s 9Nm is plenty for your average sim racer.
The Alpha Evo Sport also represents the entry-level of Simagic’s latest wheelbase technology, making it a future-proof way to take advantage of the brand’s latest steering wheel releases.
The GTS Steering Wheel has everything you could possibly need in a circular steering wheel. It has seven face buttons, two thumbsticks, two rotary switches, an LED rev stripe and a set of large shifter paddles.
The alloy quick release helps maintain a solid connection to your chosen wheelbase, while its 300mm diameter helps control high-torque outputs. Our top tip is to go for the suede alternative, as the leather equivalent is poorly finished in comparison.
