The follow-up to Bugbear’s epic crash-em-up Wreckfest is nearly upon us, with Wreckfest 2 set to enter Steam’s Early Access programme on the 20th of March.

The release time has been confirmed by publisher THQ Nordic: 5 pm GMT / 6 pm CET / 10 am PDT / 1 pm EDT.

Ahead of this, we can confirm a few details about the game, including what modes it will initially have, its car list and, most crucially, how much it will cost.

Watch our hands-on impressions and gameplay from Wreckfest 2, above.

Wreckfest 2 Early Access price

Wreckfest 2 costs $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99 on PC, but it will retail initially for $23.99 / €23.99 / £19.99 until the 3rd of April as a part of a special introductory discount.

Wreckfest 2 will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S after the PC version’s Early Acces period has ended. The v1.0 price is currently unknown.

Wreckfest 2 Early Access game modes

Wreckfest 2’s Early Access version does not feature many game modes (initially, at least). Currently, players can only access the following game modes in Wreckfest 2:

  • Quick Race
  • Create an Event
  • Multiplayer
  • Replay

Unfortunately, we’ve been unable to access multiplayer features ahead of the Early Access release, but Bugbear assures us it will be available on the 20th of March. This is crucial, as with only two other race modes players will need PVP racing to maintain their interest.

Wreckfest 2 tracks

The Early Access version of Wreckfest 2 contains four tracks with multiple layouts.

These are:

  • Scrapyard – Main Route, Bonebreaker
  • Speedway – Speedway Race, Speedway Derby, Speedway Figure 8
  • Savolax Sandpit – Main Circuit, Main Circuit Reverse
  • Testing Grounds

Two more tracks are set to be released as part of a free update in around two months, which will also include two additional cars.

Wreckfest 2’s Early Access build contains four cars.

These are:

  • Roadslayer
  • Rocket
  • Striker
  • Ginger

There is also a rudimentary paint mode, but it currently lacks many of the details that made Wreckfest’s so popular.

Wreckfest 2 allows players to participate in Banger Racing, Folk Racing and Demolition Deathmatches with up to 23 AI opponents. Demolition Deathmatches are limited to the Speedway Derby and Testing Grounds tracks.

Throughout Wreckfest 2’s Early Access period, Bugbear and publisher THQ Nordic will be encouraging players to offer feedback and help shape the development of the game as it nears a v1.0 release. A road map will be available on the 20th of March providing more details on the game’s development pathway.
