With the new Formula 1 season underway, many will be wondering if there will be an official F1 26 game.

EA usually announces new annual F1 games in the spring to coincide with the start of of the real-world championship. Last year, F1 25 was announced in late March before launching on PC and consoles in late May. This year, however, there won’t be a standalone F1 26 game.

F1 25 to receive 2026 season expansion DLC instead of sequel

In a surprise shift, F1 25 is set to receive a paid 2026 season expansion, breaking a 16-year tradition of annual sequels.

As part of a “strategic reset for the F1 franchise,” the DLC expansion will include the new cars, teams, and drivers from the current season, along with new regulations.

This year’s redesigned F1 cars are lighter than their predecessors and feature new power units with a near 50/50 split between electric and combustion energy.

It also means that drivers must manage their energy, choosing when to charge the battery or deploy full power. This could introduce an interesting gameplay mechanic for the 2026 expansion, forcing playerst to make strategic decisions mid-race.

No release date has been set for the 2026 season expansion yet, and pricing details are still to be confirmed. However, we expect the DLC to have a summer release window, as with previous annual F1 games.

After the 2026 expansion, a new “reimagined” F1 game will be released in 2027. Codemasters says the sequel will deliver a “refreshed experience” that “looks, feels, and plays differently,” while “delivering more gameplay choices.”

It will also provide a “deeply authentic and innovative representation of the action and thrill of Formula 1, reimagined into a more expansive experience,” according to the developer.
