Miami-based studio VRAL Games has announced a new update for its VR-only motorcycle game VRider SBK, adding a long-awaited ‘Free Practice’ mode plus a brand-new multiplayer feature.

The official game of the FIM Superbike World Championship was released back in June this year, providing a surprisingly playable representation of what it’s like to hang onto top-class superbikes from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, BMW and Ducati; featuring officially licenced riders and tracks from the 2023 season.

The game’s latest v1.3 update adds the aforementioned Free Practice mode, allowing players to build up their skills without the distraction of other bikes on track. As well as this, a new multiplayer ‘Casual Race’ mode has also been implemented, opening up a more friendly form of online PVP play for the first time, owing to the absence of collisions.

Normal real-time multiplayer races – where collisions are very much enabled – have now been labelled as ‘Competitive Races’, with servers split by region to ensure minimal latency. VRAL has also addressed several bugs along with the above-noted new features.

Originally available for Meta Quest headsets only (Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro), VRider SBK will soon be released on PC via Steam too, exposing its unique take on motorcycle gaming to a bigger market.

VRAL has also been working on a proprietary handlebar controller to help elevate its VR motorcycle experience further, unveiling preliminary images of the ‘T-TORQUE’ in June, pencilling in a release date for Winter this year.

VRider SBK’s v1.3 update is available to download now.
