A new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Hot Wheels Unleashed has been published, and it showcases boost flying abilities and a new Skyscraper track.

The footage shows more use of the wide orange Hot Wheels tracks we know and love from the diecast model range, and the use of power pads and jumps. The drifting mechanic looks to be key to a quick lap.

But now, so is boosting into the air to avoid obstacles in a style akin to Rocket League. This game really is trying to do it all!

The new Skyscraper track sees you jumping outside into a cloud-filled vista – something we weren’t expecting of this game. We thought it would just be set within garages and bedrooms. It turns out the scope of this game is massive, arguable to most ambitious project from developer Milestone yet.

We also see a large truck-like vehicle smashing rivals out of the way. How this is balanced for those who lose time is critical to the enjoyment, something that Mario Kart often hones to perfection.

Releasing this September across every device you can think of, Hot Wheels Unleashed promises over 60 vehicles, a career mode, local and online multiplayer and a track editor. We’ll have more on this game as soon as we hear more.

Update: Several packshots have been released for the game. There will be a Day One Edition that includes the two additional vehicles of the Track Manga and the GT-Scorcher, plus a ‘Challenge Accepted Edition’ which includes a diecast model.
