Tokyo Xtreme Racer will get a PS5 physical release in Japan

After leaving Early Access on PC in September, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is being ported to PlayStation 5 sooner than expected. During this week’s Japan-centric State of Play presentation, Sony confirmed that the Japanese street racer will arrive on PS5 on 25th February, 2026 (26th February in Japan).

Pre-orders are live on the PlayStation Store, priced at £39.99 / $49.99 / €49.99. In Japan, Tokyo Xtreme Racer will also receive a physical PS5 release, retailing at ¥7,600 (approximately £37 / $49).

A Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II R34 adorns the colourful cover art, alongside an NA1-generation Honda NSX hidden in a reflection on the road and a paint splash-effect background.

Sadly, it’s not confirmed if the physical release will be outside. Since Genki is based in Japan, it could be a Japanese exclusive.

However, the disc release can be imported from retailers such as Playasia, which is currently selling it for £51.03. Since the PlayStation 5 is region-free, it will play in all territories.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer’s long-awaited PS5 release marks the franchise’s return to PlayStation for the first time in 20 years, since Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2, known as Kaido Battle: Touge no Densetsu in Japan and Kaido Racer 2 in Europe.

The reboot is regarded as a return to form, thanks to its Japanese car roster, night-time Shuto Expressway setting and novel SP Battles, where races are won by depleting your rival’s energy bar as you increase your distance from them.
