The modern reboot of Tokyo Xtreme Racer has been released on PC today, ending its lengthy Early Access period.

To celebrate the game’s v1.0 release, and its PlayStation 5 announcement, developer Genki has unveiled a swathe of new features to the game, plus additional cars and tuning parts.

Check out all of TXR’s new content below, including the full v1.0 changelog.

Story mode

The game’s story mode has now been fully unlocked after being limited to Chapter 2 in Early Access.

Aero and wheel tuning parts

Tokyo Xtreme Racer v1.0 launches with a host of new features, including insane engine swaps

Several new tuning companies are now in TXR, with more cars able to change their bodykits and wheels. TRD, Mugen, Junction Produce and Kenstyle, among many others, have also partnered up with Genkii to include their aero parts in-game.

Perk tree restrictions

TXR’s career mode perk tree restrictions can now be removed to help balance difficulty.

B.A.D.NAME Editing

TXR’s system for assigning player nicknames based on their driving attributes, termed ‘B.A.D.NAME’, is now customisable, with players now able to select their own. Players can only use names they have acquired through the career mode, however.

Rival Dialogue Reference

The dialogue spoken by rivals throughout career mode disappears during the game, however, you can now view all of it via the reference screen.

New gameplay perks

Engine Swaps

Perhaps the most important new perk, you can now perform engine swaps in TXR to help boost the performance of some of its slower starter cars.

Want to fit an EK9 Civic Type R with a normally-aspirated V10 motor? Sure, why not!

PA Features

You can now fast-travel between Parking Areas (PAs) via the in-game map.

Tuner Summon

Tokyo Xtreme Racer v1.0 launches with a host of new features, including insane engine swaps

You can now also summon legendary tuners to PAs without the normal restrictions.

Aura System

The Aura surrounding rival cars in career mode can now be applied to your own car, although it doesn’t offer any performance advantage (other than looking quite cool).

NewGame+

A NewGame+ mode has now been added, allowing you to restart the game while retaining your cars, CP and BP.

Other changes

A 30 fps option is now available in TXR, with HDR output now selectable. BP rewards have been adjusted, with vehicle stability also improved. Revisions have also been made to the way damage affects players both in the early and latter stages of a race.
