Tokyo Xtreme Racer developer Genki released a sneaky update for the game last week, with the patch notes arriving yesterday (10th July 2025).

The headline feature for many was the introduction of Steam achievements; however, the most important addition is a new gameplay mechanic that forces drivers to monitor their car’s health (the mode is optional, it must be noted), something that’s been a feature of previous TXR games.

Players can now affect the water and oil temperature of their cars, with temperatures rising depending on how they’re driven. Rev too high and for too long, and the car will enter limp home mode, limiting power and destroying your race.

With careful management, however, players can reap extra benefits, with Genki implementing a 1.5x reward increase if the feature is turned on.

Understandably, warning lights have also been added, and when these additional realism rules are selected, tyre wear calculations are constantly performed too, even while free roaming.

Best to speak nicely to your local Yokohama supplier, then.

Achievements

  • It is now compatible with STEAM’s achievement system.
  • Of the achievements planned for the full release version, those available in the Early Access version are displayed.

Additional Rules

  • Initially we decided not to implement it, but due to popular demand we created additional rules that allow you to control water and oil temperatures while driving.
  • When the additional rules are enabled, the water and oil temperatures will increase depending on the engine load.
  • If either of them reaches a certain temperature, the engine will go into safe mode to prevent breakdown.
  • When the safe mode is activated, the engine speed, output torque, etc. are restricted and the vehicle will not be able to run at 100% performance.
  • In the UI, the red zone of the tachometer will be expanded and alert lamps on the water and oil temperature gauges will light up.
  • * Flashes as a warning.
  • Furthermore, if the additional rules are enabled, tire wear calculations will be performed constantly, meaning that durability will decrease even during free run.
  • *However, durability reduction rate will be suppressed to 1/4.
  • With the additional rules enabled, the rewards for defeating rivals are increased by 1.5 times, as you will need to manage these factors while driving.
  • The additional rules serves as a challenge element. So players who want to increase the difficulty, please try it out.
  • The additional rules can be enabled via a button on the GARAGE screen.

UI

  • The UI layout while driving has been revised with the addition of water and oil temperature gauges.
  • 1. Water and oil temperature gauges
  • “Added water and oil temperature gauges above the tachometer.
  • Only visible when Water/Oil Temperature mode is enabled.”
  • 2. ODO/TRIP meter
