The third instalment in the somewhat genre-defining Test Drive Unlimited series will be released in September, and ahead of that, a recent PC demo provided the development team with some much-needed feedback.
Those on PlayStation and Xbox, however, missed out on the test session. This is set to change in August. Perhaps it was lost in the hype of the release date news, but publisher Nacon has reaffirmed this commitment, so expect exact dates over the coming weeks.
Over a quarter of a million players tested the Steam Next Fest demo – which also acted as a form of limited-time public beta – completing over 600,000 races.
It has also confirmed that it is targeting two graphical fidelity modes on consoles:
- Performance – 1080p/60FPS
- Quality – 1440p/30FPS
That’s a no for 4K/60FPS then, sadly – although if it runs consistently smooth, and the frame rates are rock steady, we suspect most players will be appeased.
The Nintendo Switch version is notable only by its absence presently and seems more unlikely with each passing announcement. When quizzed by Traxion recently, the developers refused to rule it out entirely, however.
The minimum and maximum PC specs required during the demo are not final, with those expected to change ahead of the release.
