The BenQ MOBIUZ Cup of Nations, presented by VCO, will be live later this year within iRacing – and it will be broadcast live on Traxion.GG. Registration for qualifying is now open.
The competition witnesses the best sim racing talent compete for their nation’s glory in a World Cup-style tournament and takes place this year across the 4th and 5th December. Created in a joint venture between VCO and Williams Esports, the multi-discipline racing esports competition returns after its debut in 2020.
During the inaugural showing, vehicle types such as GT3, touring cars, IndyCars and rallycross were all used before Germany took the laurels thanks to the efforts of Maximilian Benecke, Alexander Thiebe, Jonas Wallmeier and Patrik Holzmann.
For the 2021 edition, 16 nations will take part, with four drivers representing each country. So far, a massive 44 countries have signed up, but these will be whittled down during two ‘Road to Cup of Nations’ Time Attack qualifying stages within iRacing, starting from today, 11th October. The final line-up will be revealed in due course.
To provide a level playing field and showcase driver flexibility, participants will only receive basic information about the circuits and cars a few days before the final. The tournament is then divided into a group stage on Saturday 4th December and the final day on Sunday 5th December. On both days, the exact combinations of cars and circuits will only be published in the morning.
“This time it’s an end-of-season event which gives it a special feel, as well as accommodating a super busy racing schedule. We’re delighted to be working with VCO again, and to welcome BenQ as the new title partner as we build the event stronger,” said Steven English, Head of Esports at Williams.
The teams will not only be competition for nationalistic pride but the share of a $25,000 prize fund.
Qualification for the Cup of Nations began on 11th Oct, with racers taking to the track in a Dallara Formula 3 car at the Zandvoort circuit in Time Attack challenges. The combination of car and circuit for the second Qualifier will be announced at a later date. You can register your entry for the VCO Cup of Nations qualifiers right here.
The finale will be broadcast LIVE online across Traxion’s social channels. We’ll see you there and update you when the final entry list is locked in. Stay tuned for more info on our broadcasts soon!
