Rocket League Season 17 is set to kick off next week on 4th December, bringing with it a new game mode, a neon-inspired arena and online free play.
Headlining Season 17 is the addition of online free play. Previously, online events in the car football game were restricted to timed matches, but this is set to change in Season 17.
Online free play will allow players to practice their skills with other players in a more casual setting. All game modes (Soccar, Hoops, Snow Day and Dropshot Game Modes) can be played in online free play, with every arena available from the offline free play mode. These events can be customised with boost options and goal resets.
Completing two challenges in the free play party limited time event will unlock the ‘Power of Friendship Title’ and ‘Black Dieci Wheels.’ In addition, those who log in between 4th December and 5th March will receive an ‘Icebreak Banner’ reward.
A free ‘Tokyo Machine’s PLAY (VIP) Player Anthem,’ the theme song for Season 17, can also be claimed later in December.
A new Split Shot limited-time mode brings a “fresh twist to the 3v3 Rocket League formula,” with teams divided across each half of the field, along with a Split Shot Heatseeker.
Season 17 also introduces a reimagined version of the Neo Tokyo arena inspired by arcades, complete with a giant retro-style scoreboard. There’s even a wall graphic inspired by old-school arcade racers.
As with most seasons, there’s a new premium Rocket Pass with new rewards to unlock as you level up. Continuing the arcade theme, new premium rewards include the Shokunin Car Body, Shokunin GXT Car Body, Pixel Melon Wheels, MechMania Decal and Synthpop Trail.
With over 70 tiers of free and premium rewards, there’s plenty to keep Rocket League players occupied as the perennial car football game approaches its tenth anniversary next year.
