rFactor 2's LMP2, GTE class receive Goodyear tire model update

There’s been an update applied to the LMP2 and GTE classification of cars on the rFactor 2 platform as of Tuesday (5th July 2022). The substantial update covers seven cars, including six of the GTE class cars as well as the Oreca 07 LMP2.

With the update, the load of cars all received some quality of life updates, some of which were also applied to the Formula Pro and other content earlier this year. Updates include the new rFactor 2 sound engine support, shift protection, enhanced brake and engine cooling, an updated Balance of Performance among the GTEs, and perhaps the most significant, a new tire and physics model.

The cars that received the update include:

  • Oreca 07 LMP2
  • Ferrari 488 GTE
  • Aston Martin Vantage GTE
  • BMW M8 GTE
  • Corvette C7.R GTE
  • Corvette C8.R GTE
  • Porsche 911 RSR GTE

WHAT’S NEW?

For the new tires, they’ve been updated in conjunction with Goodyear to become more realistic in their behaviors. This, in turn, brings new physics alongside, which there will also include update BoP parameters to keep the competition fair and balanced. The updated tires are also now branded with the Goodyear logos on the sidewalls as well.

The shift protection is also a big addition to these cars. In last year’s 24-hour Le Mans Virtual Series finale at Circuit de la Sarthe, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team was ruled out early after a mistimed downshift over-revved the virtual engine and forced a retirement. While it didn’t happen often, it was something that could ruin anyone’s chances. Now with the update, this should be less common.

Besides all of that, the engine cooling and brake cooling systems are updated with new parameters on the cars, and this is all perfectly timed for those who are about to get involved with preparation for this year’s iteration of the Le Mans Virtual Series, due to start back up in September.

The specifics of the update for these seven cars are all listed below. What do you think about these changes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
