Real Racing 3 update celebrates 10th anniversary with four new cars and a new track

Real Racing 3 is now ten years old. If that makes you feel old, then fear not, as fans of the game will quickly forget about their age concern thanks to a new update.

As part of the update, the Nissan Nismo GT-R LM, Jaguar Lightweight E-Type, 2020 Mazda MX-5, and 1989 Mazda MX-5 have been added to EA’s mobile racing game, bringing it up to version 11.1.

We run you through all the changes below.

Nissan NISMO GT-R LM

Real Racing 3 update celebrates 10th anniversary with four new cars and a new track

This Nissan-based car joins the pantheon of homologation specials built to allow entry into motorsport championships and events. In this case, Nissan’s tuning arm, NISMO, wanted a Skyline GT-R model to appear at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995-96.

This ended up in the creation of just one of these muscular-looking NISMO GT-R LM road cars, which, although largely a standard GT-R underneath, housed a rear-wheel-drive-only transmission and enlarged track to cope better with its transition to a racecar.

It’s truly one of a kind.

Jaguar Lightweight E-Type

Real Racing 3 update celebrates 10th anniversary with four new cars and a new track

Lightweight by name and lightweight by nature; the Jaguar E-Type tips the scales at just under a metric tonne. Featuring an aerodynamic body shape with aluminium body panels and engine block, the Lightweight E-Type was Jaguar’s answer to the sportscar racing dominance of Ferrari and Aston Martin in the sixties.

Although it didn’t enjoy as much motorsport success as hoped upon its release in 1963, the Lightweight E-Type regularly wins in historic racing today, looking and sounding like a bag of fun at the Goodwood Revival.

2020 Mazda MX-5

Real Racing 3 update celebrates 10th anniversary with four new cars and a new track

What can you say about the Mazda MX-5? Ubiquitous on the road and in sim racing, the small Japanese sports car is as much fun on the track as it is on the open road, and incredibly celebrates its 34th birthday this year.

The 2020 edition is heavier and bulkier than the original lightweight car, but still retains its lively personality thanks to a more powerful, two-litre turbocharged engine, producing 181bhp. It’s still rear-wheel-drive too, enhancing the fun factor.

1989 Mazda MX-5

And this is where the fun factor really started. The 1989 original MX-5 redefined the sportscar, combining low-weight and low-inertia to a sublime rear-drive chassis.

This formula is slowly dying out in motoring sadly, with only a few outliers like Alpine and Caterham subscribing to the theory that less mass equals more smiles. Enjoy these cars while you can!

Lime Rock Park

Real Racing 3 update celebrates 10th anniversary with four new cars and a new track

Although not explicitly mentioned during RR3’s update stream or its patch notes, Lime Rock Park has been added to the service, showcased for the moment via an in-game time trial event with the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3. Completing this will unlock an exclusive new RR3-themed livery for the same car.

Lime Rock Park is famous for being the home of the Skip Barber Racing School (founded in 1975) and was owned by the man himself until 2021. The track features elevation changes and a tight layout, with grassy run-off areas there to catch out the unwary.

The Connecticut track has a few different layouts but it’s the 1.5-mile Grand Prix Course that’s the fastest and most flowing configuration. The track is set to debut in RR3 on the 26th of February.

As well as new cars and a new track, Real Racing 3 players can also claim a free Porsche 911 Carrera S as part of the game’s tenth-anniversary celebrations, with new Special, Flashback and Limited Time events set to begin in Season 2, Round 4’s schedule. The full details of RR3’s newest events are outlined in the changelog below.
