PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release of Assetto Corsa Competizione brought forward

Ross McGregor

Yesterday we reported on the release of a new trailer for the PS5/Xbox Series X|S version of Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC). At the end of the trailer, eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted the game is set for release on the 22nd February, despite initial reports stating the 24th. You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a mistake, but no!

The Official Assetto Corsa Media Channel has today released the same trailer, but confirmed the new release date, saying: “We’re a little ahead of schedule so we thought we would release Assetto Corsa Competizione on next generation consoles a couple of days early!” Nice.

We’re so used to hearing about game delays in this industry that it’s quite refreshing to see this kind of announcement. Who can forget the disappointments caused by Gran Turismo series’ frequent delays throughout its history? As a racing game fan, the wait for Gran Turismo 4 was interminable!

With the PS4 and Xbox One versions of ACC coming in for some criticisms regarding their graphical performance and bugs, the next-gen version promises silky-smooth 60 fps and all the features of the popular PC iteration. This includes the full roster of 2021 cars and liveries, and the epic v1.8 update that transformed the game on PC. Private lobbies can also be set up to allow 30 players -a console-only feature.

As an added bonus, owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions can upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for free, and game saves will transfer over too. So if you are interested in buying one of the new consoles in future, now may be the best time to purchase a current gen copy of the game…

Will you be buying the new version of ACC on console? Let us know in the comments below!
