Project Motor Racing teaser suggests the Toyota GT-One is inbound

Project Motor Racing has released a preview of what appears to be a Toyota GT-One, which will boost the game’s historic sports car offering further.

Toyota’s much-loved but short-lived GT-One appears to have been confirmed for Project Motor Racing’s car lineup.

An interior screenshot was posted by PMR’s X account showing the unmistakable red haunches of Toyota Team Europe’s (TTE) creation, with some extra sleuthing showing a corresponding match to the real-world dash.

Le Mans

The GT-One was built, unsurprisingly, for the 24 Hours of Le Mans’ GT1 class, going toe-to-toe with contenders from Porsche, Nissan, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz in the 1998 edition of the race.

Toyota was in contention for victory before its leading #29 car suffered transmission failure, but it returned the following year with three revised chassis to comply with the new LMGTP ruleset.

1999 proved to be a much stronger showing, with the #3 car finishing second overall and first in its class, only beaten by the fearsomely quick BMW V12 LMR LMP. If not for a late puncture, the GT-One may even have won.

The car would only race one more time at the Le Mans Fuji 1000 km, again finishing second, before being discontinued for 2000 as Toyota’s Formula 1 campaign ramped up. Only seven GT-One chassis were ever built, including one road-legal version and a test mule, making it one of the rarest and most desirable racecars in the world.

The Toyota is set to race against the Lotus Elise, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, Nissan R390, Porsche 911 GT1-98 and Panoz Esperante GTR-1 from PMR’s GT1 class. LMP cars it raced against in-period, like the BMW V12 LMR and Panoz LMP-1 Roadster-S, have also already been confirmed.

Project Motor Racing release date

Project Motor Racing is set to release on 25th November 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, featuring a large slice of historic and modern sports car racing, from modern GT3s and Hypercars to Group C.

It is set to feature developer Straight4 Studios’ bespoke Hadron physics engine, an in-game mod marketplace and use GIANTS Software’s proprietary graphics engine, as used in the Farming Simulator games.
