Legendary Weissach-based car manufacturer Porsche has announced it will be present at this week’s Gamescom convention, showcasing its partnership with Gran Turismo with the presence of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo show car.
The gaming convention, running from this Wednesday to Sunday (24th-28th August), is a videogames trade fair where developers and publishers come to present their products in front of a global audience. The convention began in 2009 and has been held in Cologne every year since – barring the Covid-afflicted 2020 edition.
Porsche will be represented for the very first time at Gamescom with the manufacturer flanked by its sportswear partner Puma.
The focal point of Porsche’s “purpose-built modern lounge” will be a life-size replica of the virtual Porsche Vision Gran Turismo car designed specifically for Gran Turismo 7.
“A vehicle designed purely for the virtual world opens up exciting possibilities for us that are otherwise heavily regimented in a regular design process for a series production car,” Michael Mauer, Vice President of Style at Porsche said at the time of the car’s announcement.
“Projects such as the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo are particularly valuable for us in the creative process. Further developing our clearly defined Porsche Design DNA and exchanging with designers from other industries is an important part of our work,” he continued.
Belgian artist Vexx will also be on hand to paint the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo show car during the convention, using his trademark vibrant style. The car’s paint scheme will be gradually transformed as the convention progresses and the public will be able to track Vexx’s progress as he paints.
Visitors will also be able to drive virtual Porsches in several on-site simulators too as well as purchase Puma clothing designed by Vexx. The colourful artist’s Porsche Vision Gran Turismo livery will also be available to buy as a 1:18 scale model.
“Porsche has steadily expanded its commitment to the gaming and e-sports community in recent years – our appearance at Gamescom underscores this”, said Robert Ader, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Porsche AG.
Off the back of its first Gamescom appearance, we wonder if Porsche will use the opportunity to announce further upcoming videogame projects? Regardless, Traxion.GG will be on-site to cover the news if and when it happens!
