A new gameplay trailer for Over the Hill, Funselektor Labs and Strelka Games’ follow-up to Golden Lap, has just been revealed, showcasing its free-roam off-roading gameplay.

Sharing a stylised aesthetic with Funselektor’s successful homage to the glory days of rallying, art of rally, Over the Hill sees players tasked with traversing diverse landscapes in a range of vintage 4×4 vehicles, each of which features multiple customisation options.

Aping similarly chilled-out off-road driving games like MudRunner and the more popular Snowrunner, Over the Hill looks to be the perfect antidote to super-serious racing sims, replete with soothing music and relaxing ambient sounds.

But it wouldn’t be an off-roading game without some proper off-roading mechanics, and Over the Hill delivers on this front. Players can use their vehicle’s winch to tow others out of tricky spots, switch between high and low-range gear ratios and carefully negotiate rivers and mud pits, all the while searching for hidden objectives across multiple biomes.

The game will feature four-player co-operative gameplay too, so you and three friends can enjoy Over the Hill’s free-roaming delights as a team when the game arrives later this year on Steam. The game also has a photo mode, allowing you to capture its stunning vistas (or your worst crashes) in glorious detail.

Funselektor’s previous games have all ended up on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, and Over the Hill is likely to follow suit, with Strelka Games’ CEO Pietro De Grandi already confirming there are plans for console ports after the PC version is released.
