The Ridge Racer series is long known for console-based arcade racing fun, but the Namco franchise started life on arcade machines.

In 1994, the inaugural series entry was ported to the original PlayStation, but now the 1993 arcade version will make its way to home devices via the Nintendo Switch 2.

The racing game will arrive as part of the Arcade Archives programme by Hamster Corporation, which takes retro titles and re-releases them for PlayStation 4 and the first Nintendo Switch.

Other driving games in the line-up so far include two Pole Positions, two Rally-Xs and Thrash Rally, among others.

Unlike those releases, however, this Ridge Racer version is only listed for the Switch 2, so far.

It will include four game modes, three difficulty levels and a time trial mode competing one-on-one against a rival car. The ‘DX’ version featuring support for an H-shifter and clutch is also included.

Ridge Racer will be released for Switch 2 on its launch day, 5th June 2025. Pricing has ot yet been confirmed. It will join Ridge Racer 64, which is part of the Switch Online subscription catalogue.
