Opinion: Forza Horizon 6’s latest series update is a new low point

With recycled cars and misleading messaging, Forza Horizon 6’s series updates continue to disappoint.

Another monthly update for Forza Horizon 6 has arrived, and with it, a healthy roster of new cars in Series 5, dubbed British Automotive. Surely no one in their right mind could complain about such additions?

I can.

Playground Games claim there are ten “new” cars to unlock in the latest Festival playlist. But the messaging is misleading. I would argue there are actually only six – and only two of those are free.

To whittle them down, first I’m going to discount the Ginetta G40 Junior and Vauxhall Astra VXR. Sure, they are new to Forza Horizon 6, but both are car models simply taken from its Forza Motorsport sibling. Copy and paste.

Next, the Jaguar XKR-S GT and 2002 Lotus Esprit V8. Sure, they aren’t in Horizon 6, but they were in Horizon 5. When the latest sequel launched, they were conveniently removed so they could be added again, without changes, just to make these monthly updates seem like more of a feature.

Then there’s the Bentley Bentayga and Aston Martin Valhalla Concept Car. On the surface, they are portrayed as cool new additions to Forza Horizon 6. They aren’t. They are already in the game. It’s just that you could only own them by getting lucky in a Wheelspin (a roulette-style reward system).

The news for the latest update is that they can now also be earned through the Festival Playlist. Wowee.

The same is true of the McLaren 620R. Meanwhile, a Mini is highlighted in Forza’s latest official blog post, but it transpires that it’s not just in the game already, but it’s even been unlockable through a recent Festival Playlist.

Finally, in my opinion, the main legitimate all-new additions are the McLaren W1, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, Renault Sport Spider and Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe ‘Luftauto 002’. However, these are all paid-only add-ons, via the Car Pass or as solo purchases ($2.99 each).

So, that leaves the Bentley Continental GT Speed and a drift version of the Jaguar XJS unlocked in the new Drift Attack mode as ‘worthy’ additions. And very nice they are, too. I just wish Microsoft would stop touting these returning or repurposed cars as a ‘big’ thing in blogs, social media posts and trailers.

It’s not the content I’m aggrieved with, but the framing.

  1. Being that I have been Aggravated like you because for someone who Truly Plays Forza Horizon as it is my Favorite Non-Sim Racing Series and Video Game Series. I have over 8k hours in 5 and over 1,500 thus far in 6. It seems to me as though they are Purposely trying to Tank this Game. The decisions they are Making leave me ZERO CHOICE BUT TO BELIEVE THAT. The game feels dead already! Just like with winning the 3rd Race gives you a point and then NOT COUNTING CUSTOM RACES TOWARDS YOUR ONLINE WINS …. Well nobody is doing B Road lobbies or A Dirt Lobbies etc … Its BS. I can completely understand custom races but ANY RACE UNDER THE DAMN “FORZA PLAY” MENU SHOULD COUNT TOWARDS ONLINE VICTORIES…. WHICH I AM COMPLETELY OPPOSED TO KEEPING UP WITH WINS FOR NUMEROUS REASONS (i.e. ramming to win, leaving the lobby when they can’t win). The Graphics are Beautiful the Setting is Majestic I would even say PERFECT. Unfortunately that is where this Game stops being a Good Forza and for Me becomes the Worst in the Series. I have been going back and playing 2 & 3 Again both are Amazing and the Amount of Recycled Cars from then to now is atrocious. The P.I. System is Absolutely Broken and needs a complete Overhaul. Having the Same Damn META’S from 5 is JUST LAZY and is beginning to make me seriously dislike Turn 10 and I say Turn 10 because I think it’s Obvious that Playground Games is doing that Attrocity they call FABLE. I’m Ready for Gavin Raeburns game to get announced and Mike Browns game get Released if either of those Games are as Good as I hope then R.I.P. Forza Horizon. I will play FH, FH2, FH3, FH4 & FH5 periodically but the fact that there is Absolutely Zero Chance they worked on this game as long as they said they did & if so they need an entire New Staff because none of the pressing issues were fixed. Honestly I’m Just Pissed and this was the last game I will ever Preorder.
