Off-road exploration game Over the Hill heading to consoles in 2026

After initially being announced for PC earlier this year, Over the Hill is coming to consoles next year, Funselektor and Strelka Games has confirmed.

Announced in a new trailer during the ID@Xbox Showcase, the overlanding game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. While an exact release date is still to be confirmed, the console versions will arrive after the Steam release next year.

Wishlists are now open on the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores, with pre-orders set to start soon on the Nintendo eShop. Since the game was announced in January, Over the Hill has received over 600,000 wishlists on Steam.

Alongside the digital version, Serenity Forge is also publishing a physical version of Over the Hill on PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 with two variants. The Premium Standard Edition includes a window cling decoration and a digital soundtrack card.

The Collector’s Edition also comes with a car standee, an embroidered patch, a lanyard keychain, a collar pin and a poster. Pricing for Over the Hill’s physical versions is yet to be confirmed.

“Designed for fans, this edition is packed with collectables that celebrate the charm of off-road exploration,” Funselektor and Strelka Games said.

“From the winch enamel pin that nods to dealing with rugged terrain, to the rocking car acrylic standee that can bring a sense of movement to your desk, every item feels like a keepsake from a different off-road adventure.”

Since Serenity Forge is based in Colorado, it’s not yet known if they will be sold outside the US. However, Art of Rally was later published physically by Meridiem Games in the UK and Europe after the initial US release.

From Dune Casu, creator of the minimalist indie driving games Absolute Drift and Art of Rally, Over the Hill is an off-road exploration game, where up to four players can explore the wilderness, navigate treacherous terrain and complete challenges together.

Across multiple biomes from alleys to mountains, new areas are unlocked by discovering portals, while completing objectives unlocks new vehicles inspired by classic off-roaders from the 1960s – 1980s.   

Although the gameplay is more accessible and relaxing than off-road simulation games like MudRunner and SnowRunner, players will battle the elements, with realistic terrain deformation, dynamic weather and day/night cycles.  

Initially slated for a late 2025 release, Over the Hill will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
