CarX Technologies’s latest drift-based racing game is taking shape, with the Russia-based developer releasing impressive footage of CarX Drift Racing 3’s damage model today (7th October 2024).
The game, which is set to debut on iOS and Android mobile devices before being ported later to PC and consoles, should iterate on the studio’s previous drift games; CarX Drift Racing Online, CarX Street, CarX Drift Racing 2 and CarX Highway Racing, providing plenty of accessible sideways sliding actions.
Players compete on real-world-inspired drift tracks and environments (some of which will be officially licensed) using facsimiles of iconic JDM, European and American drift machines. Some of the likenesses are uncanny, with the game seemingly wall-tapping licensing issues without ever completely ripping a bumper off.
In terms of vehicles, players can expect to see versions of the Nissan Skyline GT-R, BMW M3, Ford Mustang, Nissan Fairlady Z and Toyota AE86, all replete with an incredibly detailed damage model.
Speaking of which, the most recent trailer shows the game’s impressive damage model, with bumpers, wings and panels crumpling and splintering during impacts.
Early impressions suggest that while the damage model is not on par with the likes of BeamNG.drive, it’s definitely a step above most of CarX 3’s competition (it would be even more impressive if the game looks like this on mobile devices).
Recent footage suggests the game’s environments are inspired by the likes of the Ebisu Circuit, the Nurburgring Nordschleife and the Hakone Nanamagari Route – the progenitor of all Japanese touge racing. CarX 3 will also see a remake of the series’ popular Kami Road location.
Promising an ‘enhanced physics model and a wide range of customisation and tuning options’, CarX Drift Racing 3 will be available on iOS and Android at some point in the future, with PC and console versions arriving later – dates have yet to be revealed.
