Boxenstopp will launch in 2031 in a closed beta form, followed by open beta, early access and a full release in 2037.

New sim racing title, Boxenstopp, set to ‘revolutionise’ virtual driving

A brand new sim racing driving game is on the way, designed to compete with Le Mans Ultimate, iRacing, and Assetto Corsa EVO – Boxenstopp.

In an interesting move, it won’t feature any licenced tracks, the developer citing rising circuit rights costs behind the move.

“When you can download any mod track without a licence for free anyway, we thought ‘What’s the point of paying a six-figure yearly retainer fee for real names and accurate laser scans?’,” explained co-CEO Bunai Semery.

Instead, the base game will feature the likes of ‘Bilverstone’, ‘Buzuka’ and ‘Bockenheim’, but then allow extensive community content creation and sharing, bypassing the need for legal content.

The same is true for the cars. As you can see in our very-definitely-not-AI-generated images, they will be recognisable, but not identical, to real-world counterparts.

In-game QR codes will allow the purchase of branded merchandise and themed NFTs. It is being touted as the “only true integrated sales loop in sim racing”, by co-CEO Bunai Semery.

“What we don’t want to do is offer nerdy features like rain, driver-swaps or tyre wear, as these will only ever be used by a small cohort of players,” he added bullishly.

“By focusing primarily on an in-game sales pipeline, we believe that our shareholders will receive maximum value, which is the most important element.

“Even if this game turns a profit and creates a loyal following, if we don’t make at least $4 billion at release, we will immediately cancel development. All the gaming giants do this, so it must work.”

Semery also confirmed that the physics will be “world-class”, made from the ground up and in no way, shape, or form related to the venerable ISImotor – apart from elements that borrow from ISImotor.

Online multiplayer will be “the most realistic racing experience ever” thanks to a point and ranking system akin to a Call of Duty title. This is clearly how real-world motorsport works, too, hence the framing of Boxenstop is a ‘hardcore’ simulation.

A final release date is not yet known, but the game will initially launch in closed beta form before moving to an open beta. During this time, the first paid DLC will drop, and then during early access, online subscriptions and season passes will arrive.

A ‘version 1.0’ is planned for 2037, but according to Semery “not really necessary and may never happen.”

Signups are now live for the closed beta expected to begin in 2031. The first 100,000 to register will receive email marketing for the rest of their lives.

Happy April Fool’s Day…
