New Monster Jam Showdown trailer showcases the great outdoors

We’re heading to the great outdoors with Monster Jam Showdown, but don’t expect to see Bigfoot…

Monster Jam Showdown will be Milestone’s first stab at covering the raucously entertaining monster truck series in video game form, and the Italian studio is dead set on showcasing its chaotic nature.

Although we fully expect to see traditional, stadium-based game modes, a new trailer has dropped showing these steel titans outside their comfort zone and in the wilds of Alaska, Colorado and Death Valley.

The off-road racing aspect of MJS will feature shortcuts, jumps, extreme weather conditions and destructible objects as players pursue first position on-track, with the visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5 technology.

There will be 40 monster trucks to choose from in the base game and another 26 available through free or premium DLC packs, with famous names like Grave Digger and Megaladon making an appearance.

Milestone has stated that the gameplay will be geared towards arcadey fun rather than simulation, which seems to suit the whole premise of Monster Jam, and players can expect to perform stunts and compete in races inside the series’ trademark arenas, with their tight confines ideally suited to the trucks’ four-wheel steering.

Monster Jam Showdown release date

Monster Jam Showdown will be available for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC from 29 August, with Early Access available from 26 August.
