Milestone’s Monster Jam Showdown has received a new DLC expansion pack.
Dubbed the ‘Aloha Expansion,’ Showdown’s latest DLC takes players to a tropical island inspired by Hawaii, bringing six new race tracks and a new stunt arena.
With Showdown only featuring three environments at launch, the career mode quickly became repetitive, so the new location is a welcome addition – even if it’s locked behind premium DLC.
Alongside the island environment, the DLC adds five trucks to the vehicle roster. These include the RV-style Wreckreation (no, not that Wreckreation), Lumberjack, Fire Rescue and Full Charge. The latter two are fictional trucks created for the Monster Jam toy line, with Wreckreation and Lumberjack featuring in the current Monster Jam.
“Grandma” Grave Digger, a replica of the first version of the Grave Digger body to sport the now iconic neon green and purple paint job, completes the lineup.
Those who bought the Monster Jam Showdown Big Air Edition or the season pass will get instant access to the Aloha Expansion, or it can be purchased separately.
The Aloha Expansion follows last month’s Grave Digger Legacy DLC, which added three extra Grave Digger truck variants.
What strikes us is how the tropical beach, forest and volcano environments remind us of Evolution Studio’s superb PlayStation 3 racer MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, which, coincidentally, introduced monster trucks as a new vehicle class.
Sadly, Pacific Rift never received a native PS5 port and isn’t available to stream on PlayStation Plus Premium, so you’ll have to dig out your dusty PS3 if you want to relive it.
Will you be getting Monster Jam Showdown’s new expansion or revisiting MotorStorm Pacific Rift? Let us know in the comments below.
