New car teased for GeneRally 2 as multiplayer nears completion

Early Access indie race GeneRally 2 continues to evolve, with October’s Community Update revealing developer Curious Chicken Games’ progress over the last month.

Being the sequel to the incredibly simple yet popular GeneRally, GeneRally 2 aims to borrow its predecessor’s bite-sized hits of fast and fun gameplay and marry it to a powerful track creation tool.

However, The biggest mooted improvement is the implementation of online multiplayer, which has been the main focus of the game’s development so far.

Despite never featuring PVP multiplayer, GeneRally was a huge online hit in the early noughties, with players sending their fastest race time replay files to administrators and ‘racing’ via a replay merging tool (aided by the dial-up-friendly file sizes!).

This month, online multiplayer is approaching an advanced beta stage, with testing soon to be opened up further, alongside more fettling to the game’s AI and further improvements to the game’s UI, which should be available for release in the near future.

Meantime, a new Monster Truck has been showcased and has been confirmed for GeneRally 2’s next patch, joining the game’s eclectic roster of rally, single-seater, truck and electric vehicles.

GeneRally 2 has had a tricky existence, with a 2014 Kickstarter initially failing to make its $20,000 goal. However, under the stewardship of James Burgess, Curious Chicken Games has taken on the mantle of reviving the series’ fortunes and made some impressive progress over the last few months.
