NASCAR’s Chicago Street course is now in Fortnite

Yes, you read that headline correctly. A Rocket Racing update sees NASCAR marketing its upcoming street race within Epic Games’ battle royale.

NASCAR’s Chicago Street course is now in Fortnite

Fortnite is all about Drake, expensive skins and the sort of multi-tasking dexterity I wish I still possessed. Now, it’s also about NASCAR, too.

Launched last year, Psyonix’s Rocket Racing is a driving game (analogous in parts to Rocket League but without the soccer elements) set within the battle royale shooter Fortnite.

Meanwhile, the second-ever real-world NASCAR Chicago Street Race is this weekend – the tortuous concrete-lined venue initially designed in collaboration with sim racing platform iRacing.

Now, aside from the super-series simulation, players can emulate Shane van Gisbergen within Fortnite’s Rocket Racing. A loose representation, created by UK studio Karta, of the Illinois venue is now available to race upon as a limited-time event.

To its credit, the high-rise buildings and restrictive barriers are faithfully represented. Perhaps understandably for this style of game, the track width has been dramatically expanded for boosting and jumping.

NASCAR claims that some form of ‘permanent fixture’ is on the cards for the rest of the season.
