The field of teams for the 2021-22 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual increased to 50 total with some well-known entries on Wednesday (5th January). With only ten days until the big event, the series announced several new entries from the motorsports world that will compete alongside the existing 38 teams already entered.
In total, the grand finale will see all 50 teams, new and existing, split among the LMP and GTE classes to compete for both the victory and championship.
Adding their name to the list for the first time this season is the always potent forces at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports. A well known Formula 1 entity, it will have an entry in the LMP class to go to battle against real-world rivals such as Red Bull Racing Esports and Alpine Esports. The W Series, an all-female single-seater racing series, will field a GTE entry in the BMW M8.
Veloce Esports also joins the LMP battle, up against top squads such as Team Redline, Rocket Simsport and Rebellion GPX Esports. Mercedes-AMG, W Series and Veloce are only three of the 12 new teams that have been added to the team roster. Furthermore, the driver’s list for each team is expected to release on Friday 7th January.
Other big-name teams that will be included on this roster of teams includes Prodrive Esports, the company which is behind the development of the contemporary Aston Martin Racing machines.
Also joining the fray is Pescarolo Esports, that name of course representing French driver Henri Pescarolo, the man who competed in more 24 Hours of Le Mans races than anyone, winning it a total of four times. INSPEED RACING will be the first-ever Chinese team to take part in the event too.
In total, eight LMP teams and four GTE teams will fill the field for the conclusion to the 2021-22 Le Mans Virtual Series season. Entering the final fight, the No. 4 Floyd ByKolles-Burst Esports team leads the LMP standings and the No. 71 BMW Team Redline group has control of the GTE class.
