Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports Team re-adds Dani Bereznay

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports Team announced the addition of Dani Bereznay to the fold for the upcoming 2023 F1 Esports season.

There was another twist added to the 2023 F1 Esports Silly Season on Wednesday (26th April) when the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports Team announced that Dani Bereznay would be rejoining the team for the upcoming 2023 season.

Bereznay, who was a part of the team back in 2018, had spent the last four years bouncing back and forth between Alfa Romeo (2019, 2020, 2022) and McLaren Shadow (2021), two teams that, like Mercedes-AMG was, was operated by Veloce Esports behind the scenes.

“This is one of the most successful teams in modern F1 history,” said Bereznay. “The way we approach F1 Esports is the same winning mindset as in real life. I don’t think there is a driver out there who would say no to being involved in a project like this.”

Bereznay will be partnered up with Jarno Opmeer, recent team addition Marcel Kiefer and Jake Benham.

While 3-plus-1 does indeed equal four, and usually an outfit for the F1 Esports Pro Championship contains three drivers, we still don’t know if there will be any rule adjustments for the upcoming 2023 season or if there will be any more Silly Season moves. It does sound like fielding this quartet is the plan, however.

“With Dani joining Marcel, Jarno and Jake in the Mercedes programme this year, we believe we have the strongest possible driver group for 2023 and now it’s just about getting to grips with the new game ready for this year’s series,” said Oliver MacFarlane, the Head of Esports for the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in the press release.

Bereznay does bring with him a pedigree amongst the best of them, with five-career victories and a best points finish of second in the overall standings in 2018, followed up by a third place points finish in 2019 and a fifth in 2020.

He also recently took the checkered flag in the wild conclusion to the Premier Sim Gaming Leagues’ 32nd season. Bereznay crossed the line in third, piloting an Alfa Romeo F1 machine at the time, but due to penalties for the two ahead, he was awarded the win.

“I am really pleased that I, together with my fantastic teammates, have been given this opportunity to represent this incredible brand and team, Bereznay said. “I can’t wait for the upcoming season to get started.”
