LMP2 and LMP3 cars confirmed for RaceRoom

RaceRoom has revealed it is working on bringing both LMP2 and LMP3 cars to the sim in future, as well as a new endurance championship.

  • RaceRoom confirms both LMP2 and LMP3 cars
  • New endurance racing championship also greenlit
  • Three tracks ‘new or renewed’
  • ‘One or two’ historic DTM cars in the works
  • ‘Workaround’ for driver swaps in upcoming endurance races

Following on from the successful launch of its LMDh Hypercars, Renault Laguna Super Tourer, revised ranked multiplayer and updated graphics, the team behind RaceRoom Racing Experience has revealed that it is also working on bringing LMP2 and LMP3 prototypes to the sim.

In a special episode of Grid Talk, RaceRoom’s Director of Strategy and Sales, Christian Wacker-Baur, confirmed that developer KW Studios is actively working on LMP2 and LMP3 cars.

“I have no idea how long it will take”, stated Wacker-Baur, “but with the LMP3s we’ve started and LMP2 has been a little bit postponed, but for sure we will add more classes,” he concluded.

Wacker-Baur also hinted that the RaceRoom community has been heavily involved with the LMP3 project in particular, with multiple DTM and ADAC GT Masters Esports champion Moritz Löhner able to provide feedback given his experience driving a Ligier JS P320 LMP3 car in Germany’s Prototype Cup.

The LMP3 category in the European Le Mans Series currently has three chassis, with a fourth, the ADESS AD25 (which uses KW Automotive dampers, interestingly), also eligible. The four modern LMP3 chassis choices available to RaceRoom are listed below.

  • Ligier JS P325
  • ADESS AD25
  • Duqueine D09
  • Ginetta G61-LT-P3 Evo

All are powered by the Toyota-derived V35A twin-turbo V6 motor, and are focused towards Pro-Am driver pairings and teams wishing to make the step up to the upper echelons of endurance prototype racing.

LMP2: Oreca 07 or…?

In terms of RaceRoom’s LMP2 and LMP3 chassis choice, no hints were proffered by Wacker-Baur, but in modern LMP2 racing, there really is only one option for those wishing to be competitive: the Oreca 07.

The chassis has become ubiquitous across both the European Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, thanks to its superior performance, and it’s already included in Le Mans Ultimate, iRacing and Automobilista 2.

LMU also has the ELMS-spec Oreca 07 in-game, which is a much more potent racecar thanks to its unrestricted engine.

New endurance racing championship planned, driver swap ‘workaround’

As well as confirming a new season of the RaceRoom Super Touring Championship, Wacker-Baur stated that a new RaceRoom Endurance Championship is in the offing, featuring GT3 and LMDh multiclass racing.

“I know that we cannot make a digital driver swap, but we will find a workaround,” he stated intriguingly, hinting that there may be some way to implement multiple drivers in the same car and in the same race.

“We will talk about three and six-hour races, also with a team championship. So this is something I’m sure we will announce in October,” continued Wacker-Baur.

Before that, however, a two-hour Special Event at Interlagos will take place on the 25th of October, also featuring LMDh and GT3 cars.

More esports

As well as this enduro-focused series, DTM Esports is also expected to make a return in 2026, with a partnership for a new ‘Cup’ series also in the works.

Although RaceRoom was unable to provide any more information, the sim already contains a few eligible single-make series cars, including the BMW M2 CS Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) and the Mazda MX-5 Cup ND2.

However, Wacker-Baur then seemingly added further context: “We will bring a nice car for our free content pack,” he stated. “It’s a Cup car,” he clarified, perhaps hinting towards the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992.2), which will roll out in the Formula 1-supporting Porsche Supercup and domestic German Carrera Cup series in 2026.

More historic DTM cars, ‘renewed’ tracks

Wacker-Baur also stated that RaceRoom is working on bringing ‘one or two’ older DTM cars to the sim, boosting its already-impressive lineup of classic German touring car machinery (my personal hope is for the ill-fated Class 1 Aston Martin Vantage DTM of 2019!).

Revamped circuits, perhaps taking more advantage of RaceRoom’s reworked graphics engine, can also be expected in future: “We are working on three new or renewed tracks,” stated Wacker-Baur, although he offered no hints on their identities.
