The Circuit de la Sarthe venue and two Ferrari race cars will be removed from sale for rFactor 2 when next year begins.

Home to the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, the venue is currently sold via Steam as a £4.78/€5.27 add-on for the Studio 397-developed racing simulator title.

It was used as the venue for three 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual events on the platform.

The Ferrari 488 GTE and GT3 cars will also vanish from sale on the same date, currently priced at £3.26/€3.90.

This car and track will soon be removed from sale.

The change has been made “as a result of expiring rFactor 2 licencing agreements,” stated the development team.

Those who already own the content, or buy before the 1st January 2025, will be able to download and use henceforth. But no fresh purchases can be made after the deadline.

The official game of the FIA World Endurance Championship, Le Mans Ultimate, is not affected by this change and, for this type of content at least, the main focus for rFactor 2 custodian Motorsport Games.

This is not the first time content has been removed similarly for the title – Silverstone can no longer be added via the Steam Workshop and the Monaco E-Prix layout can no longer be purchased.

Licencing is a battle that afflicts the vast majority of racing game and simulation developers. Some deals are for the lifetime of a title, others have expiration and renewal dates and some are yearly recurring payments.

It is believed that licencing challenges are behind the removal of Forza Horizon 4 from sale, for example.
