We gave JDM: Japanese Drift Master a score of 6/10 in our review back in May, citing lacklustre AI as one of its weak points.

Fortunately, developer Gaming Factory is heavily reworking the game’s AI opponents, extending to normal traffic behaviour, too, with the game’s next major update set for release next week.

After the update, your drift rivals will act far more naturally and feature better pathfinding logic. More consistency will be implemented, too, as the AI could previously exhibit freakish levels of speed in some races, before slowing dramatically in others.

Open-world traffic will also be smartened up, with NPC vehicles set to react more naturally to oncoming traffic. Players can also expect to see fewer traffic jams on touge routes, with more space for creative driving.

Custom liveries are coming… note the mirrored ‘Turbo Kings’ decal. Oops.

Custom-created cars will gradually be rolled out in the next update, with pre-tuned vehicles adorned in custom liveries the first step towards fully customizable decals.

Inspired by an infamous scene in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift movie, a new Underground Side Mission will also be added. Set in a multi-storey car park, players are tasked with drifting up and down the driveways – hopefully more successfully than the film’s protagonist.
