How to unlock the motorcycle in Need for Speed Unbound

For the first time in the franchise’s 30-year history, players can ride a motorbike in Need for Speed, with the 2019 BMW S1000 RR superbike added in the new Vol.9 update.

However, the bike is restricted to specific game modes. Here’s how to get the motorbike in Need for Speed Unbound Vol.9.

• BMW motorcycle available within Need for Speed Unbound’s Lockdown mode
• Multiplayer use only
• Look for the bike icon on the map to extract the prize
• It’s extremely fast, but also fragile
• Cannot be added to your in-game vehicle collection

Only in the Lockdown multiplayer mode

Unbound’s new motorbike is available in Lockdown, Volume 9’s new ‘PvPvE’ multiplayer mode that pits five crews of three players against each other in extraction-style matches.

Each squad must loot cash and steal special cars inspired by Most Wanted Blacklist by breaking into lockups.

Look for the bike icon

Once you’ve stolen the loot, it’s a race to reach the extraction truck before rival teams and escape or risk losing it all. Meanwhile, ‘lockdown zones’ gradually expand throughout the map, damaging your car if you drive in these areas.

After Racer X, voiced by Razor’s original voice actor from Most Wanted, reveals the lockup location, a motorbike will spawn on the map, represented as a bike icon. Find it on the map and set a waypoint location.

If you get there first, you can switch vehicles and ride the motorcycle around Lakeshore. Luckily, you can still have a chance to ride it if you don’t reach the location first, as bikes can be jacked from other players if they wreck.

Fast as…

One of the fastest vehicles in the game, the BMW S1000 RR is extremely agile, making it ideal for weaving through traffic and squeezing through tight gaps. While it’s fun and exhilarating to ride, it’s also weak when taking damage, making you vulnerable to cops and rival teams trying to take you out.

How to wheelie and stoppie in Need for Speed Unbound

• While riding around Lakeshore, you can pull off wheelies by pressing L3 down PlayStation and PlayStation or pressing K on PC.
• Likewise, pressing L3 up on PlayStation and Xbox and I on PC will execute a stoppie.
• Pushing up on the left stick will also lean the rider forward, reducing drag and allowing you to hit a higher top speed.

Why use the motorcycle?

Need for Speed’s first-ever motorbike offers several advantages over other vehicles. When riding the superbike, you won’t take any damage inside Lockdown zones.

You can also enter lockups without paying a fee by squeezing through the gate and snatching the loot.

It cannot be added to your garage, or used in single-player

If you extract the bike, you can use it in Lockdown sessions for 24 hours, providing your Extraction Streak is high enough to start with Tier S+ vehicles.  

However, the bike is limited to Lockdown sessions and dedicated PVP playlists – you can’t buy it or use it in online multiplayer or single-player free roam.

Let’s hope this paves the way for more motorcycles in future Need for Speed games.
