Grid Autosport is now playable on Switch 2

Codemasters’ circuit racer is now backwards compatible on Switch 2 thanks to a firmware update.

From Mario Kart World to Fast Fusion and an arcade-perfect Ridge Racer port, the Switch 2 has a raft of new racing games in its launch lineup.

However, several original Switch racing titles were incompatible with Nintendo’s new console at launch, including Grid Autosport. Although some players found a workaround to get the game running, it would crash when booting up, rendering the game unplayable.

Thankfully, developer Feral Interactive has confirmed that Grid Autosport is now compatible with the Switch 2 thanks to a firmware update that resolves an “issue that was blocking startup.”

“Switch 2 racers rejoice! The high-octane thrills of GRID Autosport are now playable on your shiny new console,” the developer wrote in a recent update. “An issue that was blocking startup has been fixed by the new Switch 2 firmware update, so grab yourself the latest version and put the pedal to the metal!”

GRID Autosport and other racing games have compatibility issues on Switch 2

While GridAutosport is still a native Switch 1 game, many third-party Switch titles benefit from improved performance on the new console, so this could be the case here, too.

Originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2014, Grid Autosport was ported to the Switch in 2019. In contrast to casual games like Mario Kart, it offers a more realistic racing experience than most Switch racers, featuring a variety of motorsport disciplines, including touring cars and single-seaters, a career mode, and real-world circuits.

Nintendo has not updated its backwards compatibility at the time of writing, but players are reporting that games that previously didn’t work are now playable. Other previously incompatible Switch racing games include NASCAR Rivals, TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3, WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship and WRC 9 The Official Game.
