At Traxion, we’ve been enjoying the recent Power Pack DLC for Gran Turismo 7, as noted in our review.
A week after its release, a Version 1.66 update has landed for the game, and within the changelog, there is this small single note:
- Power Pack: Updated the game balance and behaviour of Rival Cars in the race events
In very brief testing, the 1990s Civic race at Suzuka initially felt more like a challenge on the ‘two-chilli’ difficulty. Other events could be different. Also, the handy guide by Sarah has now started to reappear, as if we’re new to the game mode.
Elsewhere, changes have been made to the suspension for the VW ID.R and all three Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo models. The ‘engine flywheel moment of inertia’ has also been tweaked for the Hyundai VGT Gr.1 and the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Downshift protection-ish
More significantly, however, changes have been made to how downshifts work. To this point, it is believed that smashing down the gears manually, as quickly as possible, and then bouncing off the rev limit was ultimately the quickest way to stop.
However, now “input will be ignored when trying to shift gear down at extremely high rpm/speed.”
In testing, trying to rapidly change down in a Honda Civic is met with simply nothing until much lower engine revs – acting like a shift-protection system, minus the beeps.
The full changelog is listed below.
