Le Mans Ultimate will release the first of a six-venue US Track Pass on 28th of July.
Daytona and Laguna Seca kick off the sextet, but it got us thinking. With such an emphasis on the United States of America, could this revive talk of the Garage 65 NASCAR being added to Le Mans Ultimate?
Well, it sounds like this could be (virtual) reality soon.
“The Garage 56 thing, without giving anything away, I think closer than ever,” said Motorsport Games CEO Stephen Hood to Traxion.
Le Mans Ultimate’s stewards had originally tried to get the vehicle signed off for the simulation, and two years ago, Hood said to Traxion: “I think we’ll get there, but it’s not a priority right now.”
Two years later, it seems closer, with Hood confirming the company is actively pursuing the vehicle as of this week:
“It’s still not a priority, but it’s within reach and we’ve been working towards it.
“I think it would be cool. That’s why we started down that path originally. And with the company turned around, it makes it more appropriate.
“Although when we wanted it originally, it would have been more fitting than it is now. But I think that Garage 56 would be cool for Le Mans [Ultimate] and we’ll try to make it happen.”
At the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, incidentally the first season that LMU replicates in-game, Jimmie Johnson, Jenson Button and Mike Rockenfeller took part in a modified Chevrolet Camaro.
A model more commonly used in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series competition, the thunderous V8 machine looked incongruous among the sleek Hypercar and LMP2 machines. It instantly became a fan favourite and spawned a behind-the-scenes documentary on Amazon Prime Video.
The Hendrick’s Motorsport-run vehicle out-qualified all LMGTE vehicles that year and was classified as a finisher in 39th place.
Traxion recently conducted an interview with Motorsport Games CEO Stephen Hood, covering fundamental multiplayer changes, DLC pricing, console versions and community feature requests. We’ve released the whole interview on YouTube and Spotify.
