Kunos Simulazioni revealed the first of 20 cars it will include in Assetto Corsa EVO’s Early Access release yesterday (8th January 2025).
Although the game will feature over 100 cars when its v1.0 launches later this year, Kunos has opted to drip-feed content throughout EVO’s development, with more features, cars and tracks added as the game progresses.
Today (9th January 2025), however, another four cars have been unveiled for EVO’s 16th January Early Access build, including:
- Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI Clubsport
- Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm
- Mazda MX5 ND Cup
- Ford Escort RS Cosworth
For those who have kept abreast of Traxion’s recent coverage of EVO, there are no big surprises here, with each of the above cars being showcased by the Italian developer in some form or another over the last few weeks.
Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI Clubsport
The GTI Clubsport is the spicier derivative of the Wolfsburg firm’s rather subdued Mk 8 GTI. Featuring an electronically controlled differential to help tame the 296 horses going through the front wheels, the Clubsport is one of the most refined hot hatches on the road.
Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm is the definition of a ‘super saloon’. Featuring rear-wheel-drive, 540 bhp and a boot big enough to fit the replacement tyres you’ll inevitably need, the Alfa is a phenomenal piece of engineering.
Only 500 examples have been built, however, with half of the customer base opting not to have the back seats fitted. It’s maybe not a family car, then.
Mazda MX5 ND Cup
The Mazda MX-5 is the perfect entry-level racing machine. The ND Cup fits the bill for close pack racing thanks to its low-weight, low-inertia platform and perfectly balanced rear-drive sensibilities. Expect this to be a firm favourite when EVO’s multiplayer is unlocked later this year.
Ford Escort RS Cosworth
Ford’s Escort RS Cosworth was initially developed with rallying in mind. In the era of homologation specials from Lancia, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Toyota, the ‘Cossie’ was the standout thanks to its huge double-platform rear wing. Although its 224 bhp output and turbo lag seem disappointing by today’s standards, the Cossie remains a true icon.
Which of these four cars are you most looking forward to driving in Assetto Corsa EVO and why is it the Escort RS Cosworth? Let us know in the comments below.
