First Tokyo Xtreme Racer gameplay footage looks encouraging

The first gameplay footage of Tokyo Xtreme Racer has appeared online, showcasing a host of previously-unannounced cars coming to the 2025 PC title.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer goes Max Power as car customisation revealed

Genki has dropped plenty of hints over the direction and content of its reboot of Tokyo Xtreme Racer, but fans have still lacked one crucial item: gameplay footage.

However, just ahead of the game’s public reveal at Fuel Fest in Scottsdale over the weekend, Genki updated its website to include snippets of TXR in action, and it looks like it’s set to be a faithful follow-up to 2007’s Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2.

The footage shows a range of previously unannounced cars racing through the night-kissed highways surrounding Japan’s capital city, including a Suzuki Swift Sport, Mazda6 MPS and Nissan 350Z (otherwise known as the Farlady Z (Z33) in Japan).

Cars weave in and out of AI traffic (the game will include normal, everyday cars too) with early signs indicating the graphics will be racily atmospheric. Although the footage appears to have been recorded by a developer using a controller, wheel support has been confirmed judging from feedback at the Arizona-based Fuel Fest event.

TXR has already confirmed a host of iconic JDM cars will be in the finished game, with extensive customisation showcased just last week. Genki seems to be generating plenty of interest around its rebooted game, which will be released on PC via Steam at some point in 2025.
