Frontier Developments’ foray into the motorsport-themed games market has proven to be a success – if its UK sales figures for F1 Manager 2022 are anything to go by. In our review, we thought its “…mix of superlative presentation, deep team management and rewarding car development enthral[s]”.
Although the game was available to purchase and play digitally from the 25th of August, it was released physically five days later on the 30th of August.
The UK physical game sales charts – compiled by GfK Entertainment – ranks F1 Manager 2022 as the fourth best-selling game for the week ending the 3rd of September, just ahead of the more accessible Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in fifth position.
The fact the game’s initial sales figures were taken two days shy of a full week makes them all the more impressive for a niche motorsport title, and thanks to a strong advertising campaign across the recent Zandvoort Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, the sales momentum should continue.
By taking a more detailed look at the individual format charts, F1 Manager 2022 came top of the PlayStation 4 physical release chart and was also placed second and third in the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 lists respectively.
F1 Manager 2022 placed behind big-hitters such as Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 1 remake, Horizon Forbidden West and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection – games notably lacking in spreadsheets – which makes F1 Manager’s performance even more significant.
